Nature magnified – on your smartphone

28. September 2018 @ 18:00 - 23:59

“Animals and plants consist of cells…” – this is what we learn in school. But now you can marvel at their beauty and study their shapes using your own smartphone. Discover and take a photo of the microcosm and share it with your family and friends!

In biological research we try to understand how cells function. Therefore, we need to visualize single cells using light microscopy. On a microscope the breathing pores of a plant look like giant life belts. In a water drop you can observe rotifers, which resemble polishing machines, or discover hairy unicellular organisms. Are these unicellular organisms animals? And how do unicellular plants live inside corals?

Participants will learn about a hidden world and can use simple microscopes to take pictures with their smartphones and compare them with pictures taken on scientific microscopes.

Event language: German and English

No registration required. Each session lasts about 30 minutes.

Location: Schauhäuser
